Landscaping in the County

Outdoor Spaces Made for County Living

Prince Edward County has a way of slowing you down. Open skies, long shorelines and old limestone farmhouses make it one of the most loved corners of Ontario. A property here deserves a landscape that looks like it has always been part of the place.

Mark started Mark of Excellence in 2014 after training as a Landscape Technician at Humber College, and he holds his ICPI certification for interlock. County clients work with him directly, from the first walk around the property to the final stone.

Know the Ground

Landscaping That Works With the County

Rock close to the surface. Much of the County sits on limestone with only a thin layer of soil on top. We plan excavation, planting beds and walls around the rock, and sometimes build up instead of digging down.

Wind off the water. Lakeside and bayside lots take the full force of the weather. We pick materials and plants that stand up to wind and spray, and we send runoff where it won't wash out the bank.

Homes with history. Older homes in Picton and Wellington look best beside materials with some character. Natural stone, softer edges and layered planting help new work sit comfortably next to a century home.

Planning Ahead

Thinking About a Project in the County?

A few things worth knowing before you start.

Visit in more than one season

If you split your time between the County and somewhere else, notice where water sits in spring and where snow drifts in winter. It shapes the design more than you might expect.

Plan for when you are away

A weekend property needs plants that cope without regular watering and surfaces that don't need constant sweeping or weeding.

Think about access

Gravel lanes, narrow gates and soft fields affect what equipment can reach the site. We look at access on our first visit so there are no surprises later.

Book early for spring

County projects often line up with the busy season. A fall or winter consultation gives you the best shot at an early spring start.

Questions

Prince Edward County Landscaping FAQ

Do you really travel to the County for landscaping work?

Yes. Picton, Wellington and Bloomfield are all part of our regular service area, along with properties across the rest of the County.

Our lot is mostly rock. Can you still build a patio or garden?

Yes. We design around what is there, using raised beds, armour stone that works with the rock, or a base built up rather than dug down.

Can you make a cottage or second home easier to look after?

Yes. Durable hardscaping, hardy planting and a simple layout mean less time maintaining and more time enjoying the place.

How far ahead should we book a County project?

Hardscaping runs from spring to late fall, weather permitting. Planning over the winter usually means an earlier start once the ground is ready.

What will a project in Prince Edward County cost?

It comes down to size, materials and site conditions such as rock and access. We give you a written quote after visiting the property, and our Kingston landscaping cost guide explains the main factors.
